Les violences conjugales se répercutent sur le corps pendant la relation et après la séparation. Les femmes qui en sont victimes voient ce calvaire s’inscrire sur et dans leur chair car le corps, lui, n’oublie rien.

Lorsqu’elle subit un traumatisme, la peau se reconstitue et cicatrise. Elle ne retrouve pas tout à fait son apparence initiale, comme pour rappeler la personne au souvenir de la violence endurée. L’emprise psychologique vécue par une femme dans le cadre de violences conjugales laisse aussi des traces.

Le corps, abîmé par la violence

Le président de la Société française de chirurgie plastique Jacques Saboye n’est pas dupe : « Il n’y a aucune femme qui se brûle avec l’empreinte du fer à repasser sur l’avant-bras. » Dans son cabinet situé à Toulouse, il arrive que des femmes victimes de violences viennent demander à être réparées. S’il est « exceptionnel », selon lui, qu’elles révèlent les origines de leurs coups et blessures, la vision d’un corps meurtri ne laisse que peu de doute sur l’urgence de la situation. Il s’agit de sauver la vie qui l’habite, tant que cela est encore possible. 

Parfois, les signes de ce déferlement de violence(s) ne sont pas gravés sur le corps. Ils peuvent ne s’échapper que d’un récit, à travers des mots et des expressions du visage qui permettent à peine d’entrapercevoir la brutalité reçue. Pour Louise* – elle a pris le soin de noter la date – ce fut le 10 mai 2016. Ce jour-là, elle est violée par le garçon qu’elle fréquente à l’époque. Pendant quatre ans, la jeune femme tente de se reconstruire dans un corps dont elle se sent évincée. « Juste après l’agression, dès que je m’énervais trop, j’avais tendance à m’en prendre à moi physiquement », confie t-elle. 

Sous différentes formes, le corps encaisse. Même quand il n’existe plus de menace directe pour l’intégrité physique de la personne, celle-ci peut continuer de ressentir le poids des coups et de la violence.

Le trauma, marqueur indélébile du corps

D’après Marie-Claude Bossière, psychiatre à la Maison des femmes de Saint-Denis, le corps et l’esprit sont deux entités qui interagissent sans discontinuer : « Les femmes qui ont subi des actes de violence ont des symptômes traumatiques. Au niveau du corps, toutes les situations qui peuvent rappeler ces traumatismes ont la faculté de désorganiser à la fois la pensée et de provoquer des atteintes corporelles. » Tachycardie, étouffement, crise d’angoisse : les symptômes sont divers et affectent différemment et durablement la victime. 

La Maison des femmes de Saint-Denis

Louise a veillé à rayer son agresseur de sa vie. Elle n’entretient plus aucun contact avec lui. Mais son acte, quatre ans et demi après les faits, continue de hanter son corps. « Quand je reste seule trois, quatre jours, je commence à avoir mal au ventre, à me retenir de pleurer. » La jeune femme explique également avoir commencé à développer des sentiments de déjà-vu qui lui font revivre le traumatisme et qui occasionnent chez elle des bouffées de chaleur. 

Néanmoins, les répercussions de l’emprise sur le corps ne sont pas qu’une affaire de violences physiques. La violence psychologique atteint le corps. Confronté un jour à une demande d’augmentation mammaire, le docteur Saboye raconte avoir refusé l’opération : « Je n’ai pas opéré la patiente parce que ça ne me convenait pas. Le mari parlait d’elle comme si elle n’était pas là, comme un objet. Je pense qu’on avait un petit souci sur le consentement de l’acte. ».

Venir à bout du traumatisme

Cicatriser ou guérir, totalement ou partiellement : cela dépend. Chaque histoire est différente et marque plus ou moins longtemps le corps. L’acte, qu’il soit isolé ou s’inscrive dans un cycle de violences, se rappelle longtemps au souvenir de la victime qui doit alors vivre avec. Et la victime ne ressent pas toujours l’envie et/ou le besoin de se faire aider. 

À la Maison des femmes, des techniques corporelles sont proposées pour aider les femmes victimes de violences conjugales à reprendre le contrôle de leur corps et à l’accepter à nouveau. Cela passe notamment par des ateliers de karaté, de théâtre ou de maquillage qui peuvent ainsi constituer un complément au suivi psychologique. 

Une thérapie, Louise aimerait en suivre une, elle qui a eu besoin d’un an et demi avant de pouvoir raconter son viol à une assistante sociale du planning familial. Mais avec ses études et les petits boulots qu’elle accumule, elle n’en a pas le temps. Alors pour l’instant, elle soulage son corps et son esprit en fumant des joints.

Pour d’autres femmes, ce peut être la réparation et/ou la modification de traits physiques qui vont les aider à cicatriser de l’intérieur comme l’explique le docteur Saboye : « J’ai eu affaire à une patiente qui vouloir faire affiner ses mâchoires. Bien après, elle m’a révélé être enfin heureuse le matin puisque lorsqu’elle se regarde dans le miroir, elle ne voit plus son père qui l’a violée tous les soirs pendant des années. » La chirurgie répare parfois bien plus qu’une simple blessure apparente.
