Lorsqu’on parle de violences conjugales et d’associations, on pense à celles qui viennent en aide aux victimes, majoritairement des femmes. Mais dans les Hauts-de-France, l’association Solidarité Femmes Accueil (SOLFA) a fait le choix d’ouvrir un pôle d’un genre un peu particulier pour travailler avec les auteurs de violences conjugales : le Centre Clotaire.
Même salle, ambiance différente. En ce jeudi soir, l’ambiance au sein du groupe de responsabilisation pour les auteurs de violences conjugales est électrique. Et pour cause : le thème de la séance est « Comment suis-je devenu violent ? ». Moins léger que le sujet du mardi précédent.
Comme toujours, Nicolas prend la parole en premier, en regardant les éducatrices droit dans le yeux : « Elle m’a trompé, on s’est séparés puis on s’est remis ensemble. Mais il y avait eu quelque chose de cassé, on ne s’est pas retrouvés de la même manière. » Aujourd’hui, ils sont séparés. Nicolas* ne veut pas prolonger cette relation. Il dit se focaliser sur sa fille, dont il a la garde alternée. Séverine Lescoutre, éducatrice spécialisée, lui demande si son enfant était présente lors de l’épisode violent. Oui, elle n’a rien vu mais a tout entendu. Elle était dans la pièce d’à côté. « Elle a pleuré. C’est sûr qu’il y a eu des effets négatifs… » Roxane Amyot, psychologue, lui demande à partir de quand la situation a dégénéré. « C’était une accumulation. J’ai eu des nouvelles suspicions d’adultère, et puis la petite était encore bébé, c’était fatiguant de s’en occuper. J’ai craqué. J’en suis venu aux mains, j’ai perdu le contrôle. Je ne banalise pas, mais ça peut arriver à tout le monde. Je n’avais plus de respect pour elle, plus de retenue. » La psychologue intervient pour lui rappeler que perdre le contrôle, ça peut arriver, mais se défouler sur quelqu’un, c’est autre chose.
Nicolas garde le silence quelques secondes puis reprend, non sans un brin de colère : « Être cocu c’est pas quelque chose qui fait plaisir non plus, surtout quand on s’est investi à 200 % dans la relation, qu’on a des projets plein la tête. Elle disait qu’elle voulait se marier et avoir un deuxième enfant. Me trahir et me manquer de respect comme ça, c’est dégueulasse aussi ! » Il se calme puis ajoute, en parlant de l’épisode violent pour lequel il est là : « C’est pas arrivé qu’une fois en plus, mais plusieurs fois. » Lors du premier entretien, il avait parlé d’un acte isolé.
Roxane Amyot en profite pour évoquer la question de la violence dans leur nouvelle relation : « Vous ne pourrez pas toujours répondre par la violence. Par exemple, comment réagirez-vous si elle refait sa vie et qu’elle vous présente un nouveau compagnon ? – C’est pas parce qu’elle me présente un nouveau mec que je vais lui sauter à la gorge. » Et si leur fille vivait en garde alternée avec sa mère et donc avec son nouveau compagnon ? « Je sais que ça va arriver, j’ai ça en tête. Moi aussi je veux refaire ma vie. Être ici ça m’aide à me préparer mais ça va se faire petit à petit. Et puis elle est intelligente, elle ne va pas présenter … enfin … je ne sais pas, je n’en sais rien. » Il marque une pause. « Elle ne va pas refaire sa vie ou présenter un mec à ma fille dans l’immédiat. » Il clôt la conversation mais quelque chose s’est ouvert chez lui, une piste de réflexion pour envisager l’avenir.
« Elles veulent toutes me récupérer »
Benjamin* commence à raconter sa vie de couple : ils étaient ensemble depuis un an et demi mais vivaient chacun chez eux. Et puis elle est tombée enceinte et s’est faite avorter volontairement. « C’était déjà le bordel mais ça, ça a tout accentué. De son côté, c’était prévu et voulu, mais du mien, ça a été très difficile. Les femmes sont aidées quand elles perdent un bébé. Mais quand on est un homme, on doit encaisser et se débrouiller. » Roxane Amyot lui demande pourquoi il n’a pas consulté un psychologue. « Je n’y ai pas eu droit. » Elle lui assure que si, comme tout un chacun. Benjamin se perçoit comme une victime, privée d’aide et de soutien : « Elle allait mal, alors j’ai encaissé ses remarques. Jusqu’au jour où j’ai bu un quart de bouteille de whisky. Je me suis endormi, et pendant ce temps elle a fouillé dans mon téléphone. Elle a trouvé des messages de mon ex, avec qui j’avais parlé de tout ça. Elle m’a sauté dessus au réveil, et comme j’ai subi des violences avec mon ex-femme, j’ai revu une scène et je l’ai étranglée. J’étais dans l’auto-défense complète. » Echanges de regards entre les deux éducatrices : elles savent que Benjamin se ment à lui-même et ment aux autres. Ses explications sont souvent invraisemblables, comme lorsqu’il explique que son ex-épouse a porté plainte contre lui la semaine précédente : « Elle a porté plainte en disant que je l’avais frappée et traînée par les cheveux dans la rue. Juste avant mon procès* en plus ! Mais je l’ai pas touchée, c’est une folle, elle veut me couper de ma fille** ! »
Psychologue et éducatrice cherchent à comprendre pourquoi compagne et ex-épouse lui en veulent à ce point, pourquoi elles ont peur de lui. « Peur ?! Elle veulent toutes me récupérer. » La remise en question est difficile. Le ton monte, Benjamin se défend avec virulence. Il est innocent, elles l’aiment, elles sont folles, il est victime d’elles. Il grommelle dans sa barbe, bras croisés, en haussant les sourcils, mais ne regarde ni les éducatrices ni les autres participants dans les yeux. Roxanne Amyot tente de changer de sujet pour désamorcer le conflit : le procès, comment s’est-il passé ? « C’était difficile. On m’a plus jugé sur ma vie de ma naissance à aujourd’hui que sur les faits. On a étalé ma vie privée, j’ai du mal à comprendre. » Et sa peine ? « Huit mois de sursis simple, 5 ans sans conneries et 1500€ d’amende. Je ne m’y attendais pas. » Sa seule joie : pouvoir conserver ses deux emplois dans la fonction publique car son casier B2 restera vierge.
« Il faut que je retrouve de l’estime de moi-même«
Au tour de Georges* de raconter ce qui l’a amené à être violent. Après avoir changé de métier il y a quelques années, il est parti travailler dans une autre région. Sa femme et ses grands enfants sont restés dans le nord de la France, tandis qu’il rentrait les week-ends. « Je crois que c’est là que les problèmes ont commencé. » Après plusieurs années, il est revenu vivre à temps plein au domicile familial. « Mais ils avaient pris leurs habitudes sans moi, j’ai eu du mal à trouver ma place. Après mon accident de travail, j’ai eu un handicap et je me suis beaucoup renfermé sur moi-même. Il y avait moins de discussions, moins de loisirs… Il y avait un trou, quoi. Et puis je me suis fait des films que j’aurai pas dû, je leur disais « Vous ne vous occupez pas de moi. » Je ne me rendais pas compte, j’étais dans ma tête. Et puis l’alcool, les anti-douleurs, le manque de sommeil, ça n’a pas aidé. » Même en évoquant cette période difficile, Georges parle d’une voix calme, posée. Il a l’air apaisé. Il regarde Séverine Lescoutre dans les yeux, comme s’ils n’étaient que deux dans la pièce. Il vide son sac : « Ce jour-là, j’avais bu de l’alcool en grande quantité. J’ai chassé ma famille violemment et je me suis enfermé chez moi. Ma carabine était prête, avec deux balles : une pour mon chien et une pour moi. Je ne me souviens pas de tout mais je sais que quand je me suis retrouvé seul, je me suis mis à cogiter et puis je me suis endormi. » Sa femme est revenue, mais ses deux fils adultes ne sont rentrés que le lendemain, un peu avant que la police ne vienne arrêter Georges. « Ils ont dû avoir peur, j’ai cassé le poignet de mon fils et blessé celui de ma femme en les mettant dehors. » Séverine Lescoutre lui demande s’il aurait pu tuer son épouse. Sans hésiter, il répond par la négative : « Mais peut-être que mes fils y ont pensé et qu’ils ont eu peur que je lui fasse du mal. »
Aujourd’hui, Georges est logé au Home des Rosati*** mais il n’a pas d’ordonnance d’éloignement vis-à-vis de son épouse. Ensemble et avec leurs enfants, ils suivent une thérapie familiale. « Il faut que je retrouve de l’estime de moi-même. Il y a un trottoir à remonter, et c’est difficile. » Pourtant, Georges est déjà transformé : il est plus calme, plus souriant. Avec sa famille, ils ont de nouveaux projets : peut-être changer de maison et surtout communiquer davantage. « On a beaucoup d’amour, ça va nous sauver. » Il raconte tout ça presque sans qu’on ne lui pose de question. Roxane Amyot lui demande s’il veut ajouter autre chose. « J’ai hâte d’être chez moi. C’est mardi. »
« Je n’ai pas envie de dire que je vais jouer le jeu, je n’en sais rien »
Et Pablo* dans tout ça ? Comment est-il devenu violent ? « Bah nous on est fort jaloux, très possessifs. C’est ça qui a fait que j’ai fait un craquage. » Il explique que sa compagne et lui ont emménagé ensemble quelques semaines après s’être mis en couple et qu’ils travaillent dans la même entreprise. « Quand je finis le boulot, je l’appelle en partant et en arrivant à la maison. Elle sait combien de temps je mets pour rentrer. » Pablo parle « d’habitudes » qu’ils ont prises tous les deux : « On a un seul compte Facebook pour deux, comme ça on voit tout, on fait tout ensemble. » Quel est intérêt de se surveiller ainsi ? Selon Pablo, ce n’est pas un problème de confiance. Pour preuve : leurs trois mois de séparation (forcée par l’ordonnance d’éloignement). Il avoue sans trop de difficulté qu’un membre de sa famille va voir sa compagne tous les jours pour demander des nouvelles et faire le relais entre eux. Les éducatrices lui rappellent que c’est interdit, qu’il pourrait aller en prison si ça se savait, et que si la justice les a éloignés si longtemps c’est qu’il y a une raison : « C’est pour vous détacher, pas pour vous séparer. L’étape après la fusion, c’est la destruction. Ca va exploser, ça ne peut pas durer comme ça sur le long terme. » Pablo essuie une larme.
C’est à cause de cette possessivité que tout a dérapé. La compagne de Pablo a regardé son téléphone pendant qu’il se douchait. Elle y a trouvé une application de rencontre qu’il avait téléchargé pour voir si elle y était. Elle lui a sauté dessus au sortir de la douche. Il l’a giflée, elle l’a frappé au nez, il lui a mis un coup de poing dans le visage. Pablo a toujours une croûte sur le nez, trace de leur violente dispute. Il dit avoir craqué. Et si une autre dispute éclate ? Il élude la question, invoque l’excuse de l’alcool. Séverine Lescoutre décide de lui proposer un « défi » : essayer de ne plus recontacter sa compagne avant la fin de l’ordonnance d’éloignement. « C’est impossible. J’ai besoin de savoir si elle va bien. Je n’ai pas envie de dire que je vais jouer le jeu, je n’en sais rien. » Les arguments des éducatrices n’y changent rien. Face à l’incompréhension des deux femmes, Pablo s’adresse aux autres membres du groupe : « Il n’y a pas que moi qui suis comme ça, si ? » Il cherche à capter leurs regards, en vain.
« Il n’y a pas de bleus, pas d’ITT »
Depuis le début de la séance, Michel* regarde sa montre. Lorsque son tour arrive, il est 19h30. L’heure de la fin de la séance. « C’est l’heure », dit-il en esquissant un sourire. « De toute façon ça va aller vite, ça ne faisait que 8 mois qu’on était ensemble. » Sans donner aucun élément de contexte sur son couple, il raconte l’épisode violent : sa compagne l’a appelé parce que son fils la frappait. Il est venu la secourir, le fils s’en est pris à lui avec un couteau et l’a poignardé plusieurs fois dans le ventre. Il a pris un cric dans sa voiture et a frappé le fils de sa compagne. En voulant les séparer, « Madame » a reçu un coup et est tombée. Il raconte cette histoire avec une certaine désinvolture, l’auditoire est bouche bée. « Il n’y a rien qui vous choque dans cette histoire ? », demande Roxane Amyot. « Non. Je l’ai défendue et je me suis défendu. Résultat, je me retrouve là. » Les deux femmes tentent de lui faire comprendre que « Madame » a pu être choquée de le voir frapper son fils et d’être elle-même frappée. « Elle s’est pas pris de coup. Il n’y a pas de bleus, pas d’ITT [interruption temporaire de travail]. Et c’est les flics qui l’ont poussée à porter plainte contre moi. » Le dialogue est impossible, Michel se renferme sur lui-même : « J’aurai pas dû y aller, j’aurai dû la laisser se faire frapper. » Il se sont quittés, Michel ne veut pas recommencer de relation avec elle : « Dans ma tête c’est fini avec elle. » Mais Michel est un récidiviste, la violence pourrait revenir. Aujourd’hui, il ne veut pas parler, ne fait pas d’effort. Il dit que le groupe le met mal à l’aise. Peut-être sera-t-il dans de meilleures dispositions à la séance suivante.
